Life Is A Journey
I chose “fun” as my word of the year. I wavered a little bit while writing yesterday’s post. However, I decided to stick with it. Here’s why.
Word of the year
Choosing a word of the year is a new concept for me. In fact, I only found out about it when my brother announced his word on one of our family calls last month. He went on to explain how he uses it to center himself in times of turbulence. After hearing that, I was hooked.
How do I choose?
According to wordcounter.io, the Second Edition of the 20-volume Oxford English Dictionary contains full entries for 171,476 words in current use. 171,000? How do I choose just 1 word? Well, it was easier than I thought.
Bring in the Stoics
I’ve become fascinated with Stoicism. One principle I latched onto quickly was “control what you can control”. Meaning, no matter what happens, the only aspect that you can control is your reaction.
Admittedly, I was not very stoic last year. 2020 was in control and that was one roller coaster no one wanted to hop on. I walked away thinking “Wow, that was not fun.”
Wait, did I just say “fun”? Bingo!
The year of fun
2021 is the year of Fun. Life’s short. It’s a journey filled with many ups and downs. As 2020 proved time and time again, those ups and downs are largely out of your control. The one thing you can control though is how you react and damn it, I just want to have fun.
